Hvar Brass Band

Hvar Brass Band has about twenty members, and is led by maestro Tomi Domančić. Their repertoire ranges from marches and popular music to film music and classics.

The band can trace its roots back to the olden (and golden) days of Hvar theatre and the cultural events that took place in the Baroque and Renaissance periods. Finally, in 1842, the first music association was established in Hvar. Its name was Croatian Music Association Hektorović and it was made up of musicians, singers, and tamburica players.

During the rather revolutionary Renaissance times at the end of the 19th century, there were two brass bands in Hvar, a Croatian and an Italian one (Societa musicale di Lesina). Croatian Music Association Hektorović went through many changes before World War II, during which there were no cultural activities on the island whatsoever. Soon after the war ended, the brass band was restored and had its performance in 1946 with 24 musicians under maestro Aldo Banfichi.

Residents of Hvar still remember many excellent musicians from that time. The band had its last performance in 1998, and after one and a half decade of determination, initiative, passion and strong will, 6 years ago, in 2012, Hvar Brass Band was restored with a number of old members but also some new ones. The band now has its place in the cultural landscape of Hvar Town.
